Clinical Psychology from the comfort of wherever you are.

Psychology is the study of people’s behaviour, cognitive, attitude, performance, and mental functioning. A unique tool used to better understand and help people with psychological disorders, treat mental health problems, improve the education system, workplace behaviour, relationships and much more.

Therefore throughout our lives there may be times when we need a little extra help navigating a certain situation or multiple things at once, but finding that help can sometimes prove difficult. Especially since Covid.

With mental health issues on the rise, the public system is stretched and there are lengthy wait times, which makes accessing the correct resources tricky.

Local mum and Clinical Psychologist, Tia from @connect2healthpsych is endeavouring to close the gap of accessing therapy by providing telehealth clinical psychology appointments from the comfort of wherever you are.

Growing up Tia was often in her own world and introverted. Spending a lot of time thinking about and being quite curious as to why people would act or think the way they do. Spending her days analysing her surroundings, Tia enjoyed helping her friends through hard times, finding it rewarding being able to support people emotionally.  Stating “It always came naturally to me, and although the steps to become a Clinical Psychologist are very difficult, I am glad to have stuck it out during the academic years”.

“Not the whole process is rewarding, However, at the end when goals are achieved, moods are improved and clients are genuinely excited about something in their life; those things are the most rewarding for me”

Further, “The field of Psychology is never-ending and research and treatments are constantly evolving and so I am always on my feet and constantly learning. I find it exciting when I can go back to clients with new things I have learnt, and add more to their therapy plan!”

Prior to 2022, Tia had always worked between three roles and always for others. Since having her second baby and discovering that her time is now more valuable than ever, Tia was met with the familiar juggle of being a mum and career women not wishing to give up her whole career. With this, something inside of Tia was ignited and she found herself wanting to improve.

Tia has now brought to life, Connect 2 Health Psychology and after noticing the uptake of Telehealth since the COVID Pandemic, she is now offering telehealth appointments on a part time basis and is endeavouring to provide a high level of continuity of care for men and women with her Telehealth Services.

Telehealth provides a bridge to accessing therapy to those that cannot attend in person. Recent research has indicated that for some issues, telehealth is useful and is comparative to face to face therapy. However, these are generalised findings and the usefulness and benefits are personal from person to person.

As a Clinical Psychologist registered with AHPRA and with 13 years experience primarily in the hospital and health sector, which includes Chronic Pain and Neurological rehabilitation (Stroke, Parkinsons, MS, cancer) Tia brings a wealth of Knowledge to the table and with two small children, she also understands only too well, the multiple hats that women need to wear incorporating this into her approach to her work.

Mental health issues are currently on the rise and with clinical psychology in demand, choosing the right Psychologist is a decision we don’t wish to make lightly. Tia states that “people often look for particular characteristics when choosing a Psychologist” and with her range of expertise, this is the point of difference that her therapy delivers. Connect 2 Health Psychology is able to provide private services which people often have to wait lengthy periods for in public services, allowing Tia’s expertise to be extremely valuable to her clients. Stating “People do not have to be on a lengthy public service waitlist, to receive such valuable support. I understand too well, the need for convenient and accessible therapy. I am incredibly passionate about women’s related issues, anxiety disorders, depression, confidence issues, chronic pain pain/adjustment to illness, and those experiencing mental health concerns for the first time.”

“Being of south-east Asian background, those of similar backgrounds find my approach quite comforting and understanding, and I often see people who struggle with culturally specific concerns.”

Connect 2 Health Psychology is offering a range of therapies to young adults and adults throughout their lifespan and is most passionate about:

Depression

  1. Now this is how you use technology for good. We all know how hard it is to drag yourself to go to a doctor of any kind. Sometimes we’d rather wait it out to get better.
