As mums, we’re always searching for things to do with our families that don’t involve another trip to the shopping centre, endless screen time or spending a small fortune just to keep everyone entertained for a few hours.
The reality is that finding something that appeals to toddlers, school-aged children, teenagers and adults all at the same time can feel almost impossible.
That’s why I was excited to discover that the much-loved Uncontained Arts Festival is returning to Kogarah this June for its 6th year.
For three nights only, Kogarah Town Square and Belgrave Street will transform into a vibrant outdoor gallery filled with art, lights, performances, creativity, food and interactive experiences designed to delight visitors of all ages.
Best of all?
It’s completely free.
More Than Just an Arts Festival When many people hear the words “arts festival” they imagine something that involves quietly walking around looking at displays right?

Uncontained is the complete opposite.
This event is designed to be experienced, explored and interacted with.
Families can wander through immersive light installations, discover glowing artworks, watch live performances, enjoy roving entertainers, listen to LED drummers and take part in hands-on creative activities alongside artists.
There is something magical about seeing public spaces transformed into places of wonder, curiosity and play and that’s exactly what Uncontained does so well.
Whether your child loves creating, exploring, performing or simply being outdoors, there is plenty to capture their imagination.
A Festival Built Around Creativity, Play and Connection is one of the things I love most about this year’s program as it focuses on reuse, sustainability, play, interaction and the natural environment.
In a world where we’re all trying to raise children who think creatively, care about their communities and understand the world around them, these themes feel particularly relevant.
Rather than simply observing art, visitors are encouraged to engage with it in fun, meaningful and unexpected ways.
The festival creates opportunities for conversations, learning and shared experiences while still feeling light-hearted and entertaining.
It’s the perfect example of how art can bring people together.

What Families Can Expect
Across the three nights, visitors can enjoy:
✨ Immersive light installations and glowing artworks
🎭 Live performances and theatre-style encounters
🥁 LED drummers and interactive entertainment
🎨 Hands-on creative activities and art making opportunities
🖌 Live mural painting and contemporary art
🍔 Food trucks and local food offerings
🍻 The Uncontained Bar featuring local craft beverages
🌿 Creative works inspired by sustainability and the natural environment
The festival also showcases the incredible talent, creativity and diversity that exists within our local community and beyond.
The Practical Information Parents Need

A Celebration of Community supported by Sydney Water, Uncontained celebrates the creativity, diversity and community spirit that makes the Georges River area so special.
Over the years, the festival has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated events, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and earning national recognition, including a nomination for Best Arts Festival at the Australian Street Art Awards.

It’s easy to see why.
Events like this remind us that some of the best family memories are often the simplest ones, wandering through glowing lights, sharing food together, watching our children discover something new and enjoying an evening out as a family.
Don’t Miss It!
The most important thing to know?
Uncontained is only on for one weekend.

No second chances!!
If you’ve been looking for a free, family-friendly winter outing that offers something a little different, I highly recommend adding this one to your calendar.
Pack the pram, bring the grandparents, grab dinner from one of the food trucks and enjoy a memorable night out with the family.
Sometimes the best adventures are right here in our own backyard!
