Meet a local Mumma!
Each week we chat to local mums in our community group to discuss lots of different topics. We talk about what keep them ticking while navigating motherhood, what their ideal night out looks like, the ups and downs of motherhood, their interests and hobbies and lots more.
Not only does this allow for our mums to keep a strong hold onto that identity that they so much want to find again after having children but it also allows for a sense of connection within our community group which is what we have strived for since day one.
I hope by creating this virtual village it has given you a life line in your postpartum journey.

This week we chat to local mumma Christie who is a first time mum and talks to us about the isolation that becoming a mother can create and what she did to combat that period.
Thank you Christie for taking part in Meet a Local Mumma and keeping our aim to connect local mums strong.
How long have you lived in the area and why do you enjoy it?
I moved to Mortdale after I got married in 2019. I love the parks and how close I am to transport and shops.
How many children do you have and what are their name\s and ages if you wish to share?
I have a 10 month old boy named Joshua.
What are your favourite local walking tracks and \ or parks?
I feel like there is too many to chose from. I do love walking around Olds Park and Jubilee Park.
What is your favourite beach or waterway?
Seven Mile Beach in Gerroa is my favourite as we spent many summer holidays there as kids.
Favourite local Cafe & Why?
The Grind in Mortdale. Friendly staff, good coffees and love their waffles (with bacon and maple syrup) which I have had on the rare occasion.
What are your favourite kid friendly activities?
I love taking Joshua to the park either on the a picnic mat or play equipment. He is just a crawler at this stage but he loves being outside and seeing the big kids (or anyone really). He is happy just slapping his hands on equipment that is at his height.
What are your Wet Weather plans?
Depending on the day I head to the library for Rhyme Time otherwise it’s a long day in a unit and often Joshua is happiest playing with a ball on the balcony or a basket of pegs.
Are you a working mum or SAHM (Stay at home mum)? Tell us about your business if you’d like!
I am a SAHM for now. I go back to work at the end of June.
What is your hidden talent?
Hmmm…not sure if I have one. It might sound weird but I don’t mind weeding.
What would you say is the biggest challenge of motherhood?
There are lots of things that are challenging. I think feeling that sense of isolation as you no longer see your working friends and you can’t just quickly pop out of the house…and then when you do its hard not to compare your life and baby to others.
You’re stranded on a desert island and you find a phone, it has one bar battery. Who are you calling and why?
Mum. Always Mum. Sorry husband. She just seem to always know what to say.
What would you say is the best part of motherhood?
Seeing Joshua smile at me or those around him.
What would you say keeps you sane while navigating motherhood?
Podcasts. I’ve listened to quite a few especially during the isolation period where it’s mums talking about different mother issues and joys. It was probably more of a mother’s group than the one I was allocated.
What are your interests \ Hobbies?
I love taking photos and videos (there is like a billion photos of bub)
I love being outdoors especially when cooped up in a unit.
Finding new and healthy meal recipes.
What is your idea of the perfect night out?
Anywhere out of the house with just my husband except for maccas (as much as I love a good big mac I like to wait and have a chilled out time just chatting).
What does a typical day look like for you?
Wake. Breakie. Rangle my baby into clothes. Walk. Playtime. Lunch. Playtime. Nap (for bub and hopefully me). Snack. Walk. Dinner. Bathtime. Bubba sleep time. Rinse and repeat.
What’s something not many people would know about you?
Umm…I love olives. As a kid I wanted to call my kids Olive but husband was not going to the name.
What’s your favourite product to recommend since becoming a mum?
Gro sleeping bags. I got so sick of swaddles.
How do you think you have changed since becoming a mum?
I feel like I’m quicker at making decisions on the spot.
What advice would you offer a fellow mum or first time mum?
Don’t stress about things. Every baby is different. I remember crying when I tried feeding Joshua solids at 6 months and he was not interested at all while other people shared what looked like happy snaps of their bubs eating their avocados. He eventually went for it in his own time.
Lastly, is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Happy for a chat if you see me in your travels.

How this holistic approach to skin care is closing the gap between gut health and appearance.
Its a known fact that when we look good, we feel good. But what if I was to suggest you went deeper into yourself, re-entered your body? Calmed your nervous system by going beneath the surface, with an aim to not only look good but at the same time calming your mind and increasing that feel good factor. What would you say?

Owner, Creator, Healer ~ Aoife Smith Just imagine what truly feeling good beyond the surface does for you?
When Aoife Smith, owner of Beauty on Bonds became a mum she admits it was the “biggest shock of my life” prompting her to do an enormous amount of soul searching with the goal of healing old wounds and growing into a conscious being & mother.
With 20 years of hands on experience Aoife is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to skincare, stating she is an absolute nerd who never stops expanding her knowledge with everything skin. One of her greatest achievements being developin two skincare ranges which are loved and used globally. However, it was becoming a mother that truly changed her approach.
After opening her salon in Peakhurst in November 2019 Aoife has dedicated herself to education about the benefits of many ‘alternative’ treatments and has gone on to treat skin for what it is, the largest organ on our body that is directly affected by everything we do. Aoife understands that skincare & treatments alone will not succeed in achieving a healthy complexion for everyone and which is why her holistic approach is a true point of difference and sees her clients returning time and time again.

“I have a unique ability to see fads for what they are and to keep true to only delivering tried and tested treatments that will aid and not harm my clients.” ~Aoife
Aoife’s holistic approach to skincare has seen Beauty on Bonds continue to expand to an all inclusive wellness hub which now incorporates a massage therapist, cosmetic injectibles, Integrative Holistic Life Coach and Evidential Medium, Reiki Practitioner, Cosmic Channel and Psychic Intuitive with more on the cards as peoples awareness and results to a holistic approach to skin care and wellness becomes more evident.
The first thing I noticed when booking some me time in with Aoife is her approach to really getting to know her clients, by investing time to get a deeper understanding on things such as medical history, genetics, nutrition and intolerances aswell as stress levels & sleep management. By investing this time it allowed for a much deeper connection before even attending my appointment. This holistic approach allowed an understanding about what I ultimately required on the day in my treatment plan.
This is an amazing experience and includes a nod to wellness principles – sensitive, meditative, calm. Aoife is excellent at her craft. ~ Lia, Beauty on Bonds Client
Throughout her years of experience Aoife has noticed a massive oversight trend by many therapists in the role of our microbiome in healthy skin. A big emphasis on skin and gut microbiome is placed into each client at Beauty on Bonds, insuring the skin microbiome is replaced after each treatment, minimising any negative effects and boosting long lasting results.

When looking at what Beauty on Bonds offers you start to truly appreciate the thought and love Aoife has for bringing together a wellness hub and giving it life for the local community and by including a guided meditation in all facials truly allows for the ultimate mindfulness experience.
“Believe it or not, most of our clients walk out without even looking at their skin, the glow coming from within is all that matters to them in that moment” ~ Aoife

Why this new dance studio in Oatley is the key to learning new skills and making new friends.

When looking for a dance studio for our children we often look for many aspects, a structured program, an educational focus, variety, class sizes, a disciplined environment and appropriate tuition.
Now there’s no need to look any further because its all on our doorstep!
Studio Elevn is a newly established dance studio in the heart of Mortdale/Oatley who has all this and more. A family friendly, recreational studio offering fun and exciting dance and acrobatics classes for children starting from 2yrs old. Providing quality tuition and a friendly, safe environment for your little ones to grow. Studio owner and teacher Miss Jasmine dedicates her time to teaching the art of dance and has formed strong connections with all of her families and students.
With over 6 years experience teaching children, Miss Jasmine says dancing has always been my passion after growing up dancing from the tender age of 4.
“I fell in love and have never looked back” states Miss Jasmine.
After mastering the art of dancing Miss Jasmine hopes to be an inspirational figure in the lives of her students as they grow and blossom at Studio Elevn by passing on the lessons and skills that have been instilled in her forever.
As a child growing up in the Sutherland Shire Miss Jasmine attended classes which is where she believes her love of dance and performing began.
After initially falling in love with the art of dance, Miss Jasmine then successfully auditioned and was accepted into Newtown High School of the Performing Arts as a dance student and completed her HSC. Upon finishing school Miss Jasmine was then accepted into Ev & Bow Fulltime Dance Training Centre training for a year full time and receiving her Certificate IV in dance.
“Lucy has loved dance class so much, she looks forward to it every week. We have a playlist at home of dancing songs and she dances to them at home during the week. Thanks so much for running fun, engaging classes, I can see how much she enjoys it every week” ~ Dance Mum

With all this now under her belt Miss Jasmine decided to nurture her gift and with that developed a love and understanding for teaching and choreography and after graduating began teaching at a range of studios across The Sutherland Shire however in 2020 they faced their first lockdown prompting Miss Jasmine to take the leap and branch out on her own and brought to life Studio Elevn. Now the Georges River is reaping the benefits.
Since opening her own studio Miss Jasmine admits they have already faced many adversities but have turned them into becoming stronger as a community and we are excited to see what the future of Studio Elevn looks like.
Miss Jasmine believes being able to play a small part in a child’s life is truly a blessing she is feeling so lucky and grateful for. Admitting that seeing the joy and happiness the kids have in her classes warms her heart and truly is the reason she became a teacher and studio owner.
“Studio Elevn is a wonderful and fun environment. Miss Jasmine has been amazing at teaching both my children the fundamentals of ballet and dance and watching them grown and develop over the years has been exciting to see. Miss Jasmine has a great way of including all children and bringing each class to life with lots of fun and laughter had by all! We all adore Miss Jasmine and my girls look forward to each class with her. I highly recommend StudioElevn if you want a fun and effective dance studio” ~ Dance Mum
Enrolling children into dance / acrobatics classes is a great way to create new friendships, stay active and learn new skills such as rhythm, coordination, creativity, build strength and of course HAVE FUN! At Studio Elevn classes are affordable and run on a term basis so you are only committed for 10 week blocks (in accordance with the school terms).
The Good News: Studio Elevn are also accepting Active & Creative kids vouchers so you are able to save $300 per year on fees and by mentioning MOTGR you can redeem FREE Registration. Free Trial lessons are also on offer for all new students.
So there really is no better time than right now to get your little ones into the studio to meet new friends and learn some new skills while you save some money.

Why your gut is the secret to a healthier, happier life.
It’s no secret that we only get one body for life – and when we look after it, it loves us back! So when they say the best investment we can make is in our health, they aren’t kidding.

By making our health and wellbeing a priority, it tends to have a flow on effect to every aspect of our life – our confidence, our energy, our relationships, our work, our social life and our family life. And who doesn’t want to be a better mum, wife, sister, daughter or work colleague, right?
But where do we start when it comes to our health?
Local Mum and Gut Health Practitioner, Sofia Potente says “Begin with your gut health – it will have a ripple effect on ALL aspects of how you feel.”
Research shows that poor gut health is linked with IBS, fatigue, anxiety, depression, autoimmune, hormonal imbalance, overweight and even cancer.
Sofia Potente learnt this lesson the hard way, and just how important gut health was, through her family’s journey with her son.
Her son Isaac was born with severe gastroesophageal reflux that conventional medicine wasn’t able to address. No matter what they attempted, their son just continued to scream around the clock in pain.
Sofia explains the first year of his life was a cycle of medication, hospitals and doctor visits. Nothing worked which resulted in ending up on a waiting list for stomach surgery, believing at the time this was the only option.
Desperate to avoid surgery, Sofia drew from her experience in health education and research and, working with an integrative doctor, resorted to dietary changes and natural remedies to ease her son’s pain.
Within months, he was medication free and his condition dramatically improved.

This experience was a blessing in disguise for Sofia and her family, opening the door to the power of nutritional and holistic medicine and the importance of addressing the root cause, inspiring Sofia to return to study Integrative Health.
The first thing you will notice about this local Mum is her gentle dedication to working with her clients aiming to make a real change in their lives, knowing only too well how much it will positively benefit them.
“I can’t recommend this program enough! After completing the Healthy Gut Reset, I feel like me again. My clothes fit better, I’ve lost 8 kilos, I have more energy, I feel less bloated, mood is amazing and brain fog has lifted. Thank you Sofia!”
~ Kim Pauro, New Zealand.
With over 16 years experience in health education and research, Sofia is a wealth of knowledge and is now a Certified Integrative Health Practitioner, Gut Health Coach and holds postgraduate qualifications in public health (MPH).
With her focus purely on the power of gut health and holistic wellness, Sofia launched ‘The Natural Switch’.
Sofia is also now the proud creator of the popular 8 week Healthy Gut Reset program, and dedicates herself to helping women with gut related issues such as bloating, IBS, weight gain, low energy and mood.
Using the same integrative approach with her clients that she used to heal her son’s gut (and her own), Sofia focuses on the root cause of her client’s concerns, rather than just symptoms. “What we know as “IBS” is just a collection of symptoms – my job is to work out WHY you’re experiencing those symptoms – and address that” said Sofia.
Through gut microbiome and food sensitivity testing, as well as a gut-friendly nutrition and supplement plan, Sofia has helped her clients feel lighter, more energised and less bloated after working with her.
“I am so happy! I was Trying on a few dresses and was shocked. I now fit them perfectly and have lost 11kilos. My skin looks better and I feel better. My only regret is I didn’t join the program sooner!” ~ K.G, Sydney.
As a finalist in the Local Business Awards, Sofia’s work has been published in peer reviewed health journals, Natural Parenting Magazine and Thrive Global. Prior to The Natural Switch, Sofia led statewide programs for many years in cancer prevention, mental health and physical activity.
Her services include:
– Customised Gut Health Plans
– Food Diary Analysis
– Food Intolerance Testing
– Microbiome Stool Testing
– Digestive Supplements
– Holistic Lifestyle Support
– Healthy Gut Reset ProgramSince launching The Natural Switch, Sofia has worked with hundreds of women to rebalance their health naturally, and couldn’t be happier with where she is today.
Witnessing the shift in her clients has been such a positive journey for Sofia, since the early uncertain days with her precious son.
Fast forward to today and Sofia says the rest is history!
Sofia and her work with the Gut Health reset program are a true asset to the local area. Located in the Georges River Area, however you can access her services online from anywhere via her website www.thenaturalswitch.com.au

Have a ball of fun and escape the rain at Babyccino Kids Cafe Hurstville
Located just on the outskirts of the heart of the Hurstville CBD in East Quarter and not far from Kempt Field you will find Babyccino Kids Cafe.

Where the ball pit is loads of fun, there is coffee for mum and dad and the service comes with a smile!
Upon arriving I was greeted by a lovely staff member. She politely asked me to remove my shoes and welcomed me into the cafe. The first thing I noticed upon entering was how clean, bright and engaging the play area was, although there is no denying the colour scheme leans towards a girly theme with lots of pinks, purples and peach tones throughout, I wouldn’t hesitate from bringing my son to play as to me its just bright and engaging instead of leaning towards a specific gender.

After entering the cafe you will notice a seating area lining the walkway to be able to sit and enjoy a meal or a coffee and easily supervise the kids while they play. Although I didn’t sample the food while at the cafe I did view the menu. There is quite a good choice of food to chose from and it is clear they are catering to their local demographic with a good choice of Asian food to choose from which is a nice change. Gone are the days of plain hot chips and sausage rolls, you can now enjoy things like Japanese Gyudon or some mushroom and vegetable wontons and with the extensive kids menu starting from $8 and all coming with a small serve of fruits its sure to keep children happy. Outside food is not allowed.
The play area is somewhat a small area but it definitely packs a punch when it comes to fun! The play area commences with a dress up corner with lots of costumes to choose from including things like Frozen, snow white, spider man and lots more. Once a costume has been selected you can move onto some role playing in the kitchen or shop that is located alongside and opposite the dress up corner.

With pretend food and a cash register it will allow for lots of sensory role playing while in costume. A book and reading nook is also located infront of the shop and with a decent amount of books to choose from it’ll be sure to keep the kids entertained.
Once the role playing is finished its time to move onto the two story soft play area which you can balance, climb, crawl and weave your way through while making your way to the hidden play areas. The soft play area is complete with a tube slide, ball pit filled with pink and white balls which you can enter via the double slide from the top level, there are large lego foam blocks to stack and knock down, an interactive busy board wall and screen located in the ball pit area to throw balls at and watch them roll down the tubes.

For children a little older than toddlers there is also a small room located at the other end near the cafe where there is a lego and magnetic tiles tables for some building time to work on those fine motor and problem solving skills for all those future engineers!
There is definitely lots of fun to be had by all ages at Babyccino Kids Cafe but I feel that its more catered for ages of up to 7 years old just purely due to the size of the play area and the toys and books to choose from.
I also liked that it was easy to be able to see your children at all times if this is something that you prefer.

Free parking is available located next door at 95 Forest Road with lift access to the cafe. The garage door is automatic. There is also free Wi-Fi.
The cafe is also available to hire if you’re planning a party! The details for the party hire are available on our instagram highlights.

After spending some time here and getting to know the staff you start to appreciate the thought that has gone into bringing this play centre to life. Its a great way to pass the time and let the toddlers burn off that never ending energy while keeping them engaged and stimulated.

Overall, we enjoyed our time at Babyccino Kids Cafe and would visit again. Its definitely somewhere I would suggest to meet a girlfriend with our bubs in tow or even sit and do some work with their free Wi-Fi while the kids play. Open 6 days a week (closed on Tuesdays) 10am – 4pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am – 5:00pm.
TIP: Always call ahead to confirm they are not closed due to a private function and to confirm any pricing changes. Check out our instagram highlights for more photos and current pricing.
This wonderful business is a welcomed addition to the local community and I hope to see them flourish for many years to come.

Why active kids are happier kids with Little Tennis Aces
Its a fact, active kids are happy kids therefore when it comes to ensuring our children are getting the recommended amount of physical activity per day we often look for something engaging, something fun, something all inclusive and definitely something that’s going to build confidence while learning new skills.
So when former professional tennis players Lejla Kucevic and Eleni Stefanovski identified a need to get kids back out into sport in a safe and fun way during the peak of the 2020 covid lockdown they decided to put their heads and rackets together and brought to life – Little Tennis Aces!

Racquets in if you’re having fun! While building hand and eye coordination, resilience, determination and discipline Little Tennis Aces aims for their students to master the game of tennis through their game based approach in a fun, exciting and rewarding modified program for budding future Steffi Grafs or Rodger Federers aged 2 – 10 years old. During lessons children will grasp the most foundational elements of tennis including stroke formation, technique, and footwork and as they say all sport stars need to start somewhere which is why owners Lejla and Eleni have embraced teaching the skills of tennis and setting solid foundations from as young as 2 years old.
Having spent most of their lives in the professional tennis circuit, both Lejla and Eleni recognise and nurture talent from a young age and work with your child’s skill set accordingly.
With their new and exciting program, recently featured in The Leader, Lejla and Eleni continue to develop Little Tennis Aces with new venues set to open and are now currently coaching and mentoring over 150 students a week through their grand slam all inclusive program.
“my child has developed a real passion for the sport and can’t wait to get back on court” – Mum of a Little Tennis Aces star
After noticing the amount of talent gracing their programs The Little Tennis Aces program has now evolved to include holiday camps where children get the opportunity to learn the foundations of tennis in 2 jam packed days including tennis fundamentals, games, rallying, prizes and even an award ceremony in the school holidays. A true bonus for busy mums and dads keeping their children entertained whilst learning new skills.

The first thing you will notice when commencing Little Tennis Aces is their approach to bringing equal male and female participation into the sport. At Little Tennis Aces Women are recognised and supported by the NSW Office of Sport to continue to strive for bringing more young girls into the sport they love. With tennis coaching and centres typically male dominated, Little Tennis Aces is bringing a young, fresh and female approach to learning tennis.
Meet the Team

Owners Eleni Stefanovski & Lejla Kucevic After picking up a racquet for the first time at age 8 Lejla instantly developed a love for the sport and quickly reached a level needed to compete at the highest level in Australian Junior Tournaments. Lejla was then a top Jnr in NSW for her age group and one of the top Jnrs in Australia.
From here, Lejla moved on to compete on the women’s professional international circuit (ITF and WTA) where she obtained a professional world ranking as a teenager in 2008. Lejla received full scholarship offers from top universities in the USA, received sponsorships from Head and Yonex Tennis and was selected to be a part of the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS), receiving guidance, mentoring and coaching from some of the best Australian coaches in the industry.
Eleni’s start to the sport began at the age of 6, where she quickly developed a deep love for the game and for competing! Eleni began playing Australian junior titles and won her first under 12s Australian title at the age of 10.
Eleni received guidance, mentoring and coaching from the best in the industry including John Marks (former Australian Open Men’s finalist and Head Performance Coach Tennis Australia) and David Bailey (one of the world’s leading Tennis movement and footwork experts), and learnt a lot from competing against top ranked peers including Johanna Konta (currently top 20 in the world). Eleni went on to compete in the professional international circuit (ITF), receiving sponsorships from Head Tennis and Lipton.
So with their previous experience and passion for the sport combined, Eleni and Lejla are a dynamic duo eager to pass on the expert coaching and mentoring they have acquired throughout their careers. Hoping to one day witness a world ranked player progress through their program. Lejla and Eleni are passionate about guiding children onto the courts and developing a love for this all inclusive sport and before you know it children will be so confident they’ll be aspiring to play at Melbourne Park and repeating game, set, MATCH!
Little Tennis Aces currently service the St.George and Sutherland Shire located in Rockdale, Miranda and Caringbah. They have are proud finalists in the St George Local Business Awards and are also an Active Kids Provider.

Capture those fleeting moments with Captured Memories by KR

Owner Kathy Romanos They say we only get 18 summers with our children so when it comes to looking for that special person to capture those precious, fleeting moments in life there’s no denying that its not an easy decision. Our newborns are only new for a short 13 weeks and most of that as parents is spent in a sleep deprived blur of feeding, changing nappies and longing for sleep so we need something to look back on, we need those tiny moments captured to be treasured for a lifetime.
But not only do we need those hazy newborn days captured we have a lifetime of endless milestones we don’t want to miss. Think, first birthdays with a face full of icing at a cake smash session, a family event like that of your grandfathers 80th birthday or just to soak up the love you have for each other as a family captured in a family outdoor session, maybe when you all of sudden realise that your little newborn baby is now a pre teen and you think to your self, when did that happen and where did the time go! So no matter what the occasion, photography is an investment that allows time to stand still.

Owner and operator, Kathy Romanos of Captured memories by KR has always had a passion for photography and capturing moments. Therefore after the birth of her 4th baby, Amelia she decided it was now or never to follow her dream and brought to life Captured Memories by KR which saw her dedicating her days to capturing all those joyful moments for many Sydney families.
Being a busy mum and by watching her own children grow so quickly Kathy knows that every moment matters and devotes herself to delivering exceptional captured moments in time for her clients.
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce”
The first thing I noticed about Kathy is her warm, approachable nature and with a natural, timeless and posed style to her sessions you will be guaranteed to feel at ease and really feel comfortable while Kathy work’s her magic through her lense.
Kathy’s studio is located in the suburb of Revesby however her services are mobile and cover many other locations including the Georges River area. Kathys passion really sings to me and she has been a shining light to our community for many years.

Kathys services include:
NEWBORN SESSIONS which take pace in her studio in Revesby. These sessions usually take place in the first two weeks of baby being born to ensure you capture all that newborn goodness, including mum and Dad and any siblings. Props and outfits are suppled if you wish which makes the session extremely fuss free for families. In all her sessions baby is Kathys number one priority and will ensures to put baby in charge. Sessions come at a cost of $100 plus your package and can take up to 2-3hours.
SITTER SESSION Now if you want some personality to treasure book yourself a sitter session with Kathy. This is where your babys personality shines. As long as bub is able to sit up independently this is the perfect session to capture all those cheeky smiles!
CAKE SMASH SESSIONS are an elluring and super fun choice for parents to capture the big milestone of their baby turning ONE! However, not only is this a celebration of bub as much as it for the parents to appreciate one whole year of raising their precious bundle. Kathy effortlessly captures all those cheeky, messy smiles while bub enjoys making the mess and most likely enjoying some cake for the first time. Again Kathys service is impeccable by supplying the cake for her sessions unless there is an allergy.

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY Its an honour for a photographer to be allowed into private events and Kathy understand the enormity of this request by taking it in her stride to be the professional and warm person that she is. Kathy really shines in her event photography making sure to capture the love in the room between family and friends.
FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY is your chance to stand still together. Its an investment into ourselves as a busy family. With our lives full of distractions its a nice way to just be together minus all those distractions like screen time, work, school, sport, housework ect. Its a time to really love on each other and it allows Kathy to capture those cuddles, smiles and laughter while you reconnect as a family. With indoor and outdoor sessions available you have the opportunity to really showcase your family and what you enjoy.
MATERNITY SESSIONS capture the miracle of pregnancy, ideally sessions are booked in around 32-34 weeks and include your partner and any other children. Now as women we know that pregnancy is not always glamorous but during your session you will be every bit the queen that you are. You have the choice of an in studio or outdoor session to capture your precious bump and again dresses are supplied if required.
Photography of those that we love, that can be treasured and passed onto generations is an investment you will never regret.

A rainbow in the heart of Hurstville – Kempt Field
Located in the bustling suburb of Hurstville you will find the all inclusive playground at Kempt Field.

This colourful park has been designed together with the local community and the collaboration has brought to life an enormous playground with many features for all ages and abilities.
Standing proudly on the corner of Durham Street and Roberts Lane in Hurstville you will find this colourful busy park. Covering 3.173 Hectares of parklands with a large playground that has been designed with all ages and abilities in mind. The playground has been built amongst the natural tree landscape and adjacent to the sporting fields and train line.
The playground is easily accessed from Allawah railway Station if required or there is parking, however on the day we visited the park was fairly quiet and the parking was full. I can only assume due to public transport commuters utilising the carpark which is located in between Kempt field and Allawah Station its down to pure luck.

When I think about Kempt field one word comes to mind, BIG! The playground includes many features including an impressive 6metre adventure rope bridge and climbing structure that will attract all the spider man fans as they climb and weave their way to the top just a like a spider to reach the massive rainbow super slide! An impressive 4.5 metre mammoth rope nest swing is another big feature aswell as the double flying fox complete with a harnessed seat for younger thrill seekers! A toddler play area has also been incorporated into the design allowing younger ones to safely be included in the fun, large rubber mounds also allow children to work on their climbing skills and practice their risk analysis all while enjoying the view over the park from the top, there are trampolines to jump the energy out. A Bike track also weaves it way throughout the playground with mini road signage exposing children to road safety rules while allowing bike and scooter access. As expected there are slides and swings for the younger ones and also a fantastic mum and bub swing which is extremely thoughtful of the design. The park is shaded by sails and also the natural landscape. A moduplay play area is comflaugued into the tree scape that allows children to practice balance and risk taking while paying respect to the natural landscape surrounding it.

Bench seating and picnic tables aswell as the rubber ground also makes this park inclusive of crawling babies. There are areas where wood chips cover the ground like under the flying fox and climbing net but there is ample space to enjoy with younger children. The park is partially fenced along Durham Ave and Roberts lane but open to the sporting fields.
Kempt field has attracted many visitors since its opening in December 2019 and has proved itself as the perfect place for a birthday or event with picnic tables and BBQs. However, with the adjacent sports fields, unit blocks and bitumen walking tracks it somewhat makes this area a very busy playground at times but in saying that there is so much to be enjoyed by everyone at Kempt Field including young and old, kids, teens, babies and toddlers, cyclists, sporting groups, scooter riders, walkers, joggers and mums with prams.

Kempt field ticks a lot of boxes for our family, Its close to transport and its close to Hurstville Westfields if you were to make a day of your adventure, parking is available but be mindful that it wasn’t freely available and took us two trips around the block to finally secure one. There are toilets and fresh drinking water.
TIP: Roberts lane is ONE WAY.

A bit of History…
Kempt Field in Hurstville has a very interesting history.
Way back in the early 1900’s, it was a clay pit supplying first grade clay to the Federal Brick Company Limited next door, for the manufacture of bricks, tiles and pipes. Then, in the 1950’s, it was purchased by Containers Limited and became the site of its tin can manufacturing plant, employing about 350 people, until it was taken over by Amcor and shifted to Taree, NSW. Finally, the site was repurchased by Council in the 1980s and turned into a public park with one of Sydney’s first skateboard bowls, locally known as the Mexican Hat because of the large pointy dome in the centre of the skating bowl. Fast forward to circa 2019 and its transformation is nothing short of amazing as an all inclusive playground for the local community.
The Lowdown on Kempt Field adventure playground:
TOILETS: Yes, located conveniently within the park.
FENCED: Partially. Durham Street and Roberts Lane are fenced which is where the park borders the road, however the fencing stops there and the remainder of the park is open to the adjacent parklands.
PARKING: Yes, there is parking in Roberts Lane (be mindful this is ONE WAY) but on the day we attended it was all being ultilised by train commuters and after two trips around the block we did secure one so parking can be tricky if its busy.
BBQs and PICNIC TABLES: Yes there are both covered (3) and uncovered (2) picnic tables through out the park aswell as 2 BBQs.
SLIDES: Yes, there are a number of slides with the most impressive being the rainbow tube slide.
SWINGS: Yes, there are 4 swings including one rope nest swing, a 4.5metre mammoth rope nest swing, one toddler swing, one mum and bub swing, one standard swing and a baby swing.
SANDPIT: No
DOGS: Yes on leash.
SHADE: The playground features like the swings and toddler play area are shaded by shade sails and natural trees but the remainder of the park except for the covered picnic tables is exposed. in saying that I felt there was sufficient shade as long as its not super hot. Chose your day wisely and aim for early morning or late afternoon. This will also avoid the crowds.
BINS: Yes
SUITABLE FOR: I would say the playground is suitable for all ages. I wouldn’t say its the ideal park for crawling babies with a mixture of wood chips and rubber surfaces but its definitely possible under close supervision. The playground and parklands overall are suitable for all ages with young and old accessing the park for many activities such as sport, play, cycling, walking and jogging.
How do I book for a party or event: By contacting Georges River Council on (02) 9330 6400 or email them mail@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au However, The playground is on a first in best dressed basis.
CLOSEST CAFE: There are no cafes located in or adjacent to the park but do not despair because you really are spoilt for choice with nearby Hurstville CBD. However here are the closest choices to the playground:
The coffee House Allawah is only a 1 minute drive from the playground. Located at 444 Railway Parade Allawah. 9587 3449.
Babyccino Kids Cafe – A great kids cafe located only 2 mins away if the park isn’t enough. (Call ahead to confirm they are not closed due to a birthday party.) Located at 99 Forest Road Hurstville. 0403 201 221.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE: Partially Yes, there are pathways throughout the park.
